Streetsville Sports & Physiotherapy
Do I need a referral to begin physiotherapy?
You do not need a referral to begin physiotherapy, however some insurance companies require one. It's best to check with your insurance company before starting treatment to ensure coverage.
What types of insurance do you accept?
We accept all types of insurance plans and offer direct billing if your plan allows it. We also accept and direct bill car insurance companies if you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident. In addition, we accept WSIB claims.
How should I prepare for my first appointment?
Its a good idea to bring or wear clothing which will allow the physiotherapist to examine the area in which you are experiencing the problem (e.g. wearing shorts if you have a knee injury). This visit typically lasts about an hour but may be longer if you have multiple injuries or are having trouble moving around due to your injury, so please allow sufficient time in your schedule. Do bring any test results or relevant paperwork for review as well.
What can I expect on my first visit?
On your first visit the physiotherapist will take your health history and discuss the reason why you are seeking physiotherapy. They will review any results from any relevant tests you may have already had such as x-rays, ultrasounds and MRIs. Then they will perform a physical examination to determine the problem and answer any questions you may have about your injury or condition. Afterwards, the therapist will talk to you about your options for treatment and together you will decide the best course of action to get you back to your regular activities.
What are my treatment options?
Your treatment may include exercise, manual therapy (stretching, massage, joint mobilizations) and modalities (ultrasounds, IFC, TENs, laser etc.). Your physiotherapist will work with you to design the treatment plan that best meets your needs.
How long are the follow up sessions?
The initial visit is usually about an hour with follow up visits lasting between 30-60 min. The length of your follow up sessions depends on the number, type, and severity of injuries. However, most visits are generally about 45 min.
How many visits will I need?
This is difficult to determine in advance. The physiotherapist can better answer this question after your initial assessment. The number of visits may also be determined by how frequently you are able to perform your prescribed exercises at home and how often you are able to come in for treatment.
